Literacy

Weekly ideas...

Letter of the week - R and S -

Read a book.

Create your own letter bag. If you can't find a "fancy" bag just grab a grocery bag and fill it with items that start with the letter "R and S". Go through the bag with your child and write them down on paper and draw a quick sketch of that item. Pass the bag around to other family members and see if they can add to it.

Pick 5 sight words to focus on all week. Paint them, write them with sidewalk chalk, use markers and write them rainbow... Print them on a card and tape them to your wall, turn out the lights and find them with a flashlight.

Writing prompts - (don't forget to draw a picture to go with it)

Write about your family.

Write about your summer plans.

What do you want to be when you grow up? Tell me about it.

Dictation - provide your child with a piece of paper and dictate the following words to them. They are spelling these words phonetically so if they write "kap" instead of "cap" that is fine.

dug challenging words: smash

mix wing

fed bench

bin drop

pop stamp

bus crust

gas from

fix golf

pod bunch

nut thing

Reading

Comprehension is an important component of reading that is often forgotten about. Talk about the story with your child, make predictions before you read and encourage them to ask and answer questions about the story.
