Paper Mache is a fun Art activity.

To make a paper mache mask, first soak some strips of newspaper in water until the paper is saturated. This will take a few hours.

Decide on an overall result, happy face, sad face, etc. I recommend you create a paper sketch first.

Roll up some dry newspaper to make the base of your face, this will give you something to attach the wet paper onto. Also create holes for your eyes and mouth using rolled dry paper. The first application is all about getting the parts to stay in place, tape them first (masking tape works best), in a few spots, to allow it to hold its shape.

Make a flour and warm water paste, not too thick, and not too runny, about 1/3 flour and 2/3 water. Immerse the strips of paper into the paste and apply to the dry base. Smooth with your gooey fingers to ensure proper adhesion.

Clean your paste bowl shortly after finishing your session, as the paste will dry quite hard making clean up more difficult.

Allow your sculpture to dry completely before adding more layers. Build eyebrows, cheeks, chin, etc. to create the mask of your desire. Make sure individual strips of wet paper is completely coated with paste, you can create balls of gooey mache, but ensure all inside papers are covered with paste as well.

Continue various sessions until you have a product you enjoy. It can also be painted once it's dry.

Happy crafting.
