Math Weekly Plans

Each week (Sunday evenings) I will upload a new weekly plan, each plan will be broken up into daily lessons which different activities and suggested time lengths for each activity. Some activities will take longer than others, feel free to save an activity for another day. They don't all have to be done on the day suggested. How it's structured below is just a suggestion, please feel free to change it up and complete the weekly activities in whichever way works best for you and your student.

I understand that everyone's situation is different and you may or may not have the materials to complete the activities (as described in the plan). I have tried to create the activities/lessons with that in mind and give different suggestions but if there is something you are unable to do, please feel free to change/modify so the activity works for you (or to skip it altogether if necessary). If you have any questions please email me at Emily.Sullivan@nbed.nb.ca I am here to help in any way I can.

I will continue to add different activities to this website in addition to the weekly plans that you can use as well. I have also created a math visuals and resources page (click on the button below to take you to it). This is where I will post different visuals and videos to help reinforce Math concepts we have learned. Feel free to review these with your student and use them as you practice. When skip counting the hundred chart is a great visual to use. If you look further down the resource page I created a separate section of visuals and resources to use when practicing mental math strategies. I will continue to update and put more visuals and resources in the coming weeks.

Hello everyone!
This week is our second week on measurement, this week we are focusing on mass and capacity.

Originally I was planning to do another Google Meet this week, however, with the weather being nice and teachers going back into the schools this week and being unsure of what our schedules are like I have decided not to do one this week. However, if your student would like to do a video call please contact me and we can set one up and as always, if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to email me at Emily.Sullivan@nbed.nb.ca. Have a great week!

Hello everyone!
This week are working on measurement. This is one outcome we did not cover while in school. Since this is new I have decided to do another Google meet Thursday afternoon (May 28th) at 1pm so we can go over some of the new content together and answer any questions. Please do not worry if your student cannot join I understand everyone has different schedules right now, but if your student is able to join in that would be great! I know the weather has been nice so I promise not to keep you too long. I look forward to seeing you then.

I plan to do another meeting next week to cover the second part of measurement so if there’s a time that works better for you and your student please let me know and I will try to find a time that works for most people. I will post the link for our meeting on our Facebook group on Wednesday, if you need me to email it to you please let me know.

As always, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to email me at Emily.Sullivan@nbed.nb.ca. Have a great week!

Hello Everyone!!

Friday we had our first “Google Meet”, a few of us were able to join and overall it went very well. So, we are going to plan for another one Thursday afternoon (May 21st) at 1pm. I know everyone has different schedules and it’s hard to get a time that works for everyone, so over the next few weeks, along with coordinating with teachers to try not to overlap class meetings, we will try a few different days/times so hopefully most students are able to join at least a few times. I will post the link on our Facebook group on Wednesday, if you need me to email it to you let me know. If your student is unsure about the camera or doesn’t want to talk, feel free to join and just have them out of camera view. They can listen and if and when they feel comfortable they can come closer to the camera and/or talk. I look forward to hopefully a few more students joining us on Thursday!

Below the slides I have added a few more worksheets for this week. Remember they are an option if your student would like to work on them instead of or in addition to this week's activities. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to call or email me. Emily.Sullivan@nbed.nb.ca

They have now made a feature that Google has called “Google Meet” free for educators. Since we now have access to it we are going to try to do a few short (15 mins or so) video calls so we can see each other and do a little math together before the end of the year. I am planning on Thursday or Friday this week for our test run. If you could please email or message me by Wednesday and let me know if morning or afternoon works best for you and your student and then I will let you know the date and time. Some other teachers are trying this as well this week so I’m also trying not to overlap times for those that have siblings.

If you are on a computer or laptop, you should be able to click the link to join. If you are on a phone or ipad you will be asked to download a free app first. Once you are in the meeting, you can click the 3 dots on the right side of the screen, choose "change layout", and if you change it to the "tiled" option you will be able to see everyone (if using a phone, you won't have this option).

Below the slides I have added more worksheets for this week. They are an option if your student would like to work on them instead of or in addition to this week's activities. If you don't have access to a printer your student can still complete the worksheets if they wish just answer the questions on a piece of paper. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to call or email me.

Have your student use counters or draw a picture to help them solve the problems, on the last addition and subtraction worksheet (the one with 16 questions each), I would like if they tried answering all the questions using mental math first and then use objects if they need to.

Hello everyone, welcome to week 4!

Below the slides I have added some more worksheets. As last week, they are there as an option if your student would like to work on them instead of or in addition to this week's activities. If you don't have access to a printer your student can still complete the worksheets if they wish just answer the questions on a piece of paper. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to call or email me.

The "Counting Objects to 30" worksheets can be done as estimating sheets instead (if you wish).

For the estimating sheet(s), have them circle a group of 2, 5 or 10 and then estimate based on the referent (the group) they circled how many there are in total, then have them count them to see how many there are and see how close they were.

Math Weekly Plan April 27th-May 1st (Week 3)

*Click on the arrow (on the right) for more information

Hello everyone, welcome to week 3! This week, I have added two sets of worksheets below this weeks slides (both working on addition and subtraction). I hesitated putting worksheets on at first because I know some do not have access to a printer and I wanted to make the work accessible to as many students possible. However, some of the feedback I received is you are finding your students work better when they have a sheet in front of them (which I understand and completely agree with!). So for this week I have attached two sets of worksheets, I didn't include them as a lesson this week. They are there as an option if your student would like to work on them instead of or in addition to this weeks activities. If you don't have access to a printer your student can still complete the worksheets if they wish but just answer the questions on a piece of paper. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to call or email me.

**Please note there's an error on the last worksheet in the Power Workout set. A) should be 5-5 not 5+5
