Week 9: (June 8th-12th)

Monday:

1) Write down these 8 summer Spelling words: summer vacation swimming bicycle campfire barbecue popsicles freedom

2) Watch an episode of your favourite TV show. While you are watching take notes about any ideas or opinions shown in the episode. Who was this show created for? How do you know? Which elements of this show seem realistic and believable? Why? Did anything seem exaggerated? Why do you like this show?

3) Write an acrostic poem about summer using the letters in the word summer. Look at the example below of the Spring acrostic poem. Remember we did these for Mrs. Urquhart with our own names?

Tuesday:

1) Take your eight Spelling words and put them in alphabetical order.

2) Read a fictional story of your choice today for 15-20 minutes. After reading, discuss with a friend or family member, how a fictional story can be like a TV show. How is it different? How does the author make the story realistic or believable?

3) Watch the video below of the story "Ice Cream Summer". After listening to the story write a sentence about your favourite flavour of ice cream. Also write a few sentences about what you most look forward to about summer vacation!

Wednesday:

1) Write fun and exciting sentences about 4 of your Spelling words.

2) Thinking about your favourite TV show, brainstorm a list of possible episodes that you wish they had created. Choose one to write about. What elements from the original show should you include in your episode? What characters will be in it?

3) Look at the pictures of watermelon below. Do you like watermelon? I am weird and do not like it! Write a poem or a short paragraph about your thoughts and experiences or memories about watermelon.

Thursday:

1) Take your other four Spelling words and write jazzy sentences with them.

2) Write a short letter to one of your classmates that you haven't seen since school closed on March 13th. Tell them about how you have spent this time. Maybe your parents will let you mail your letter to your classmate!

3) Watch the video below about adjectives. After watching the video come up with 2-3 adjectives that describe each member of your family (even your pets).

Friday

1) Have someone in your home give you your last Spelling test of Grade 4! Don't rush and make silly mistakes.

2) Making Words: Use these letters to make as many words as you can: X T R L N O E I A A Can you figure out the big word? Hint: We look forward to this in the summer.

3) Look below at the pictures of Ms, Turner's cat Shadow bringing snakes into her house! In one week he brought in 5 snakes! Write some juicy sentences with million dollar words describing how you think Ms. Turner reacted to her "gifts"!
