Why Bonding is Important for any Team
To lead any team does not mean to tell other's what to do. If people want to do something, they don't need to be told what to do. This can be done by building a good bond with the team, as well as the bonds between members. If members know each other and care for each other, doing tasks would be much more natural.
What Each Member can do to Form a Stronger Bond Within the Team
Go to a hackathon together
Try to attend a fundraiser and outreach events and go eat together (Boba tea, Chic-fil-a, other restaurants).
Volunteering/Community Service with other members
Team members should get to know at least one thing about another person per week.
Help each other out whenever they can. (A friend in need is a friend indeed). If the members can't figure out how to solve something, then they can ask a lead/mentor.
Be able to say, "I've learned something new about another robotics member today," after every meet.
Think about the following questions. You'll be asked these questions in google forms throughout the year and our goal is to have everyone be able to say yes to all of these questions at the end of the school year.
Do you know what you should be doing?
Do you have the tools (training, parts, equipment, etc.) to get things done?
Do you have an opportunity to do things you are good at?
Do you think that your work is appreciated (and praised)?
Do you think that your leaders care about you as an individual?
Do you feel that your work matters to the team?
Are your ideas/wishes are heard?
Do you have opportunities to learn and grow?
Do you have a good friend on the team?
What Each Lead can do to Build a Stronger Team Bond Within the team
Keep in touch with their members in their sub-teams. Team captains can go around to everyone. It is to get to know the members, and for members to know each other.
Make it a habit every week to keep in touch with members. Leads will use a spreadsheet which can be the same sheet mentioned in the next point. They will use it to check if they kept in touch with every member.
Keep a file on their members in their sub-team (definitely not ominous), things like what they like, favorite shows, food, whatever.
Facilitate members getting to know other members, leads need to facilitate different events to members to naturally bond together.
Around every 2 weeks will be good for hosting team events (ie. game night)
Ask each member one thing they would like to do on the team and record it in the file mentioned above.
Encourage every member to help with an outreach.
Encourage the attendance of every member.
Encourage a non-judgmental environment where people can freely share their opinions
