A very thick mist, which is common to the Atlantic coast line, started rolling in at about 04h00 in the morning. The Paternoster Harbour kept sounding the fog horn to warn ships as the African West coast, surrounded by treacherous rocks, is notorious for ship wrecks.
Philip was officially in trouble this morning (those of you out there who know us well will know why!!) when we got up to find that everything was soaking wet due to the mist, including the inside of the tent as well as our washing and towels that had been hanging up (to dry!) outside.
The quaint, whitewashed houses in Paternoster were also shrouded in mist which lent a kind of ghostliness to them.
We decided to reduce the length of today’s drive so we could setup camp early to dry everything out, especially the roof-top tent, linen and towels. We therefore ended up camping in Vanrhynsdorp instead of Springbok where we are headed for tomorrow. The weather has played along very nicely with a warm and not too windy afternoon. We, along with one other tent (haven’t seen the people) are the only ones here as the new school year started in the Cape today, so all is quiet and peaceful under the lovely Mimosa trees.
