We continued our trip through the Moremi National Park and exited via the south gate. The road was a simple track with many pools of water that we had to wade through. Even though we had been in the park for less than 24 hours, they still made us pay for another day to exit the park – For two adults and a vehicle, it costs P290 per day to roam in Botswana National Parks. Philip was not happy…..
As we were driving along, Lynne shouted to stop the vehicle. Guess what …. another chameleon crossing the road. Lynne jumped out and helped the Chameleon cross the road. HELP - WE NEED A JOKE FOR THIS!
We had thoughts of staying in Maun but decided to continue to Nata Bird Sanctuary. Maun is a popular hub for land, water and air safari adventures in the region and has a fair selection of shops to stock groceries, etc. If you stay in Maun, you still need to travel to the National Parks and pay entrance fees. Philip was not happy to pay more entrance fees.
As we were driving towards Nata, we could see a monstrous thundercloud forming that stretched for over 100km with clouds that looked like they were in a whirlpool. If I didn’t know better, it may have been a hurricane.
We eventually reached the thundercloud and experienced heavy rain for the next 80km which reduced our speed to a crawl. The road and bushveld looked like a huge pool of water.
Luckily, when we reached Nata Bird Sanctuary, we had passed through the thundercloud and experienced some drops of rain while setting up camp.
