Since 9th December Lynne has baked 14 Christmas cakes to dish out to family on route.
Philip has been preparing the Land Rover and working out a route.
At around 05h00 on Tuesday, 20 December 2011, we will strap "George", our Land Rover Defender, to our butts and point him toward the distant Horizon.
We plan to travel over 11,000km from our home in Centurion, Pretoria, heading first toward the magnificent Drakensberg Mountains and KwaZulu Natal to visit our daughter, then on to Kirkwood in the Eastern Cape for a big family Christmas. After Christmas, we start our odyssey in earnest. We will spend approximately 3 months travelling down the Southern Coast, around the tip of Africa and up the Western coast and then into Namibia and Botswana. Why? To learn more about the rich, interesting cultures and environment of this continent we love and call home - Africa. We will spend a lot of the time on safari in the beautiful game reserves which are spread throughout Southern Africa. This has always been on our bucket list of things to do before we are too old and decrepit!
Should you feel so inclined, pop back to this page and check out the "Daily Diary". We will try to add something everyday, but this will of course depend on our internet connectivity.
As per our daily log on 2012-02-13, our travels have come to an end. We have concluded our daily blog and included a summary of some statistics.
