We decided to take the winding coastal road to Cape Agulhas, the most southern point of Africa. The picturesque drive took us through The Strand, Gordons Bay, Rooi Els, Betty’s Bay, Hermanus and Gansbaai. During the last quarter of the year, Southern Right Whales can be seen all along this coast where they come into the calmer waters to give birth. At Betty’s Bay, we stopped off to see the African Penguins. This is where the world’s biggest penguin rescue exercise took place when an oil spill nearly wiped out the whole colony.
Yes, we did visit the most southern tip of Africa, called Cape Agulhas, and have the picture to prove it.
We camped virtually on the beach in Struisbaai which supposed to have the longest, uninterrupted sandy beach in the Southern hemisphere.
As we were visiting a fishing village we had fish and chips for dinner at the local restaurant.
We visited the harbour and were fortunate to see a large Stingray.
