Roofers Kits - Safety Made Easy for the Home User

Stop putting yourself at risk of injury. Learning the basics of fall protection at home is a matter of acquiring user-friendly knowledge and committing to staying safe on your property.

Be sure, no stats

In 2009 alone, over 8 million accidents were reported as a result of unintentional falls. Think about the number of times you've slipped on your ladder or roof while installing lights or cleaning your gutters. It takes a little slip-up to ruin your day, but there's hope.

A little effort goes a long way:

If you can spend hours hanging up lights and cleaning gutters, then spending extra time buying and using a proper roofing kit puts you on a good path to avoiding injury. Let's take a simple but important look at what you can do to stay safe this season.

A homeowner's recipe for safety

What type of roof do you have?

Is your roof steep? Does it have multiple levels that look great with lots of lights during the holidays? Is it flat but more than six feet from roof to floor below? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then the safety option for you is a roof fall arrest system. Don't worry, this isn't rocket science and you have an easy way to apply it at home which I'll get into later, but first let's move on to the next ingredient for homeowner safety.

Stay away from bad weather:

Unless you're a fish, you probably don't want to be in all that rain anyway. Housework can wait for a safer, drier climate to work on. Don't jump on the roof in bad weather. If it feels scary, this could be your first clue to wait for calmer skies.

Addition to our recipe:

Use good rubber-soled shoes

Extend the ladder at least 3 feet from your roof.

keep the ladder level; Use plywood underneath if you must.

Our final ingredient:

Security in a bucket!

As I mentioned earlier, a roof fall protection system is a great option for the homeowner to purchase for continued safety use year after year. These aren't very expensive, ranging from $100.00 to $150.00, and have everything you need for rock-solid security and peace of mind.

What's in it for me? While there is a wide variety of roof kits, most pack everything you need in one bucket.

safety equipment

25 ft or 50 ft rope

Safety line at least two meters long.

D ring connectors

Reusable or disposable roof anchors

So you've got all the gear, now what?

Read the instructions:

This should go without saying, but I personally know many people who don't take the time to read the instructions on anything. In short, you need to make sure you're fastening your anchor securely. Solid wood, rafters, trusses and beams. Never attach to plywood or go through the thin roof boards.

Measure the distance from your tie-off point to the floor. Add or tighten the slack in your rope as needed.

Never grab anything but stop and move your ladder or adjust your rope as needed while on the roof.

The finished product.

Have you ever tried a recipe and skipped a step only to find it didn't taste the way you expected? The same applies to your personal safety. Take the necessary steps to ensure a safe vacation.
