Steps

  1. Decide on an idea for your flyer - some kind of event or something to check out, type the details in a Doc or text file

    • Stuck? Do someone's birthday!

      1. Birthday headline

      2. Birthday sub-headline

      3. When = Date and Time

      4. Where = Place

      5. Anything else? Don't want too much!

  2. Draw a Sketch of your flyer with simplified representations of the images and add the text phrases you came up with in a balanced, orderly layout

  3. Gather images you want on the flyer.

    • Simple way: Use 1 Photograph as the background.

  4. Using Canva, Adobe Spark, or Photopea, make a 6.25 inch by 4.25 inch flyer document, or 6 inches by 4 inches is fine too if that's the default size. A resolution of 300 DPI is recommended.

  5. Add a background image or photograph.

  6. Add a few text objects with your flyer messages.

  7. Arrange your images and text so there's a good balanced organization of elements in your design.

  8. Apply Effects such as Drop Shadow, Stroke, or Glow to make text stand out from the background (where needed).

  9. Evaluate your image using key Principles of Design: Contrast, Balance, Alignment, Unity, and Emphasis. Make adjustments as necessary.

  10. Export your flyer as a JPG/jpeg file. PNG also works.
