Foundational Skills: Design: Projects: Business Card
- How do I organize and author visual designs to communicate effectively?
- How do I present myself professionally and attract interest?
What am I making?
3 business cards with your an image, your name, a title, school email address, and the name of our school
Design with these Principles in mind, explain how you use them for one of your business cards:
1. Emphasis, 2. Movement, 3. Alignment, 4. Contrast, 5. Unity
example Business Card page you would put on your Google Site with Principles of Design explained
How do I make it?
Principles of Design & Typography
Keep all images and text (except the background) at least 1/4 inch away from the edge of the card!
Use 3 tools:
Setting up your Business Card with Adobe Spark (video tutorial)
Creating a Business Card with Canva (video tutorial)
Make a Business Card with Photopea (video tutorial)
Add your Business Card page to your Google Site (video tutorial)
Steps
Generate your text for your business card: (Do this in a SKETCH!)
Name: (your name, like Rex Winterbottom)
Title: (you can do better than student - I used Experience Designer - it could be "Creative Creator" - have fun!)
Contact: (make up an email, or just use your es-cat.org email address, like rwinterbottom@es-cat.org)
Organization: Fictional Business, or just the name of our school: City Arts & Tech High School, San Francisco
Using design tools Adobe Spark and Canva and Photopea, create the document with these specs:
3.5 inches wide, 2 inches tall
(3.75 inches wide, 2.25 inches tall if submitting for professional printing -
put no text or graphic closer than 1/4 inch from the edge)300 dots per inch (DPI) on the resolution, or 300 pixels per inch, at least (600 is okay too)
Add the text, size it, color it, move it around, find a good Alignment
Add some kind of graphic/image, either a background, or an icon, can have more, but not too many
Use Contrast in size (big vs. small) and type style (serif vs. sans serif)
Movement: layout the card so it's natural to follow and process the information
In the layout and colors, find Unity and Harmony, and also show Emphasis (or Focus) somewhere!
Export/download your business card image in PNG or JPG or GIF format.
Repeat Steps #2-7 - you should use Adobe Spark and Canva and either Photopea or another tool of your choice
On Google Sites, under Pages, create a new page called Business Card.
Add your 3 Business Card images, and for one of them describe how you used these Principles of Design to make it:
Emphasis
Movement
Alignment
Contrast
Unity
When done, push the Publish button, review the settings, and publish.
Then click the chain-link button, Copy the link for your page, and paste it into Google Classroom to "turn in."
