This training explores trauma-responsive sandtray therapy as a creative approach to supporting children and adolescents. Drawing on a three-phase model of trauma treatment, it highlights how sensory experiences, symbolic play, and storytelling can support safety, emotional regulation, and trauma processing.
The training introduces sandtray foundations and setup, along with practical strategies for grounding, creating safe places, and expressing feelings. It explores youth-centered, directive, solution-focused, and cognitive approaches, with examples of using sandtray to develop narratives and imagine possibilities for healing. Cultural responsiveness is emphasized throughout, honoring clients’ own meanings, stories, and ways of understanding their experiences. The training also introduces virtual sandtray tools and resources for continued learning and clinical application.
