Implementing TF-CBT for children with complex trauma requires certain considerations. This webinar (Sigel, 2021) will define and differentiate historical complex traumatic experiences from a current complex trauma clinical presentation. The presentation will address considerations for implementation of TF-CBT for these children throughout the components and phases of TF-CBT. A particular focus of the webinar will on safety and stabilization skills as well as trauma narration and processing.

This article discusses ways to adapt TF-CBT to include racial socialization or the process of transmitting culture, attitudes, and values to help youth overcome stressors associated with race.
This one and half-hour online session discusses the Culturally Modified-Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CM-TFT). CM-TFT is an Evidence-Based Therapy proven to be effective for Hispanic and Latina/o/x/e children and adolescents who experienced traumatic events. The adaptations (CM-TFT) include culture specific topics like spirituality, gender roles, family, personalism, respect, among other cultural elements. The therapy's main goals are to identify trauma experiences, provide psychoeducation, increase affect regulation, identify cultural considerations, process adverse experiences in a safe environment, in-vivo exposure and to enhance safety. During this presentation, participants will be able to recognize TF-CBT components using a case study of a 6-year-old girl from El Salvador exposed to intimate partner violence.
This presentation will describe the evidence-based treatment model, Integrative Treatment of Complex Trauma for Children (ITCT-C) focusing on play/expressive therapy for trauma and relational/attachment processing, and mindfulness techniques for affect regulation. This workshop will present practical interventions with case examples, for six- to twelve-year-olds and their caretakers, included in the book, Treating Complex Trauma in Children and their Families: An Integrative Approach, co-authored by Drs. Cheryl Lanktree and John Briere (Sage, 2016).
CPT was originally developed for use with adults who are rape and crime survivors. It is also used with a variety of adult trauma populations, including both military and civilian samples. However, there's also a Developmentally-adapted Cognitive Processing Therapy model that was developed for adolescents and young adults. You can read about the CPT adaptations for youth from this article.
