Mental Health Assessment and Screening Tools

This toolkit designed by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) aims to guide schools through the process of developing comprehensive screening procedures, as well as provide readily available resources to facilitate the implementation of effective behavioral health screening in schools.

This School Mental Health Screening Guide is part of a collection of resources developed by the National Center for School Mental Health (NCSMH) at the University of Maryland School of Medicine for The SHAPE System. This guide contains background information on school mental health screening, best practices, possible action steps, examples from the field, and resources.

The purpose of this compendium is to provide a comprehensive source of information for practitioners engaged in mental health work about freely accessible no-cost mental health, social-emotional, and behavioral screening tools for children and adolescents. The initial list of tools was compiled through research database searches, internet searches, and input from field-based practitioners
