This 2-part webinar focused on some evidence-informed and expressive arts strategies for providers to engage children, youth, and their families in tele-behavioral health. Given the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, tools were presented using trauma-informed and health equity perspectives. A specific focus was on providing practical examples for optimizing video and phone sessions with clients. I offer this same training to CYF programs by invitation.
The goal of this training is to augment the participants’ understanding of how Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) principles can be integrated into the use of telehealth to strengthen access and engagement of clients in behavioral health services. A brief review of (a) the trauma-informed approach (SAMHSA, 2014) and how it’s used to develop trauma-informed systems (NCTSN, 2020); (b) the implications of using TIC to promote cultural humility and equity; and (c) the evidence base of using telehealth for behavioral health services will be provided at the beginning of the training.
The goal of this training is to deepen the participants’ understanding of the needs and challenges of clients who identify as Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) as they access and engage in behavioral health services provided through telehealth during this time of the COVID-19 and racism pandemics (Cheng & Conca-Cheng, 2020). The training will also integrate telehealth adaptations of trauma-focused and culturally-adapted interventions in working with BIPOC clients.
The goal of this training is for participants to distinguish among some of the most commonly used and widely researched trauma-informed and trauma-focused interventions in working with children/youth clients who present with acute, chronic, or complex trauma. The training will primarily expand and strengthen the participants’ clinical skills on telehealth adaptations of trauma-focused and trauma-informed interventions in working with children/youth clients; and culturally-adapted trauma-focused interventions in their clinical work with Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) children/youth clients.
The goal of this training is for participants to examine and distinguish among some of the most widely used models of a multidisciplinary crisis response, and how these can be adapted for telehealth practice. This will include research-supported assessment and intervention strategies for addressing the cognitive, affective, behavioral, and neurological symptoms and sequelae associated with crisis, emergencies, or disasters. The training will also provide opportunities for participants to practice the use of some of these telehealth tools such as virtual PFA and safety planning.
The goal of this training is to deepen the participants’ understanding of the processes surrounding loss, death and dying, and to help them become aware of a variety of telehealth-adapted interventions used to deal with the complex phenomena of grief and bereavement. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the dynamics and process of loss and grief during the COVID-19 crisis, theories of recovery, including the role of spirituality (i.e., faith) and insights from the social/behavioral sciences, as well as on developing counseling skills necessary for facilitating healing when provided through telehealth.
The goal of this training is to deepen the participants’ understanding of the processes surrounding vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue, burnout; as well as vicarious resilience, vicarious post-traumatic growth, and compassion satisfaction as they relate to telehealth work.
The training will also provide opportunities for participants to learn how to teach others to practice the use of some virtual self-care and self-compassion tools.
The aim of this 12-week webinar series consolidates learning from the quick transition to behavioral telehealth services in response to COVID 19. The webinars teach practical skills to support ongoing improvement of behavioral telehealth. This series is sponsored by the California Health Care Foundation (CHCF). It is tailored for mental health and substance use providers as well as their supervisors. The series was from April 29 to July 15, 2020.

Camp Cope-A-Lot Online (Kendall & Khanna) is a 12-module online program to help kids learn strategies to manage stress and anxiety. The computer program is based on cognitive behavioral therapy techniques (based on the Coping Cat treatment) for 7 to 13 year old children and teens. Children with the help of a coach can learn evidence-based strategies for understanding and managing stress and fears. Please note: This is an educational program and not a treatment and can not take the place of treatment for anxiety.
