Supporting Participation through Maternity and Paternity Policies
Supporting Participation through Maternity and Paternity Policies
BMC recognizes that supporting female staff and students through key life events is critical to their sustained participation and success. The college has enacted clear and supportive Maternity and Paternity Leave Policies.
BMC’s Maternity Policy grants female employees 10 weeks of fully paid maternity leave, a provision that significantly exceeds basic labor market standards in the region. This generous leave allows mothers to recover and bond with their newborns without financial penalty, facilitating a smoother and more secure return to work. The policy outlines a clear application process, ensuring accessibility and transparency for all eligible staff.
Complementing this, the BMC’s Paternity Policy provides male employees with 5 days of paid paternity leave. By formally recognizing the role of fathers, BMC promotes a culture of shared family responsibility. This policy is crucial for gender equality as it helps to dismantle the stereotype that childcare is solely a woman's responsibility, thereby reducing the "motherhood penalty" in professional advancement and encouraging a more equitable distribution of domestic duties from the outset.
