Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare Services for Students
BMC’s Holistic Strategy for Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare for Students
BMC demonstrates a profound and multi-faceted commitment to SDG 3 with a strategic commitment to sexual and reproductive healthcare (SRH) services for students. BMC’s approach is holistic, integrating direct education, confidential service access, and community-wide advocacy to create a supportive environment where students are empowered with the knowledge and resources for their SRH.
Our commitment is powerfully demonstrated through targeted educational initiatives and services that address the full spectrum of SRH. From "What is Public Health?" event, which established a foundational understanding of health promotion and maternal health, creating a contextual framework for more specific topics to the "Women's Menstrual Health" initiative, which conducted in partnership with Kotex at a local school, provided essential education on menstrual health, dispelling myths and fostering open discussion—a foundational aspect of reproductive education. Building on this, the Postpartum Care Initiative, held in collaboration with Andalusia Hospital, offered students direct access to expert knowledge. An OB/GYN consultant delivered an informative lecture, and a specialized coach led a session on postnatal physical recovery. This initiative is a prime example of facilitating access to specialized reproductive healthcare services through institutional partnerships, offering students practical insights into a critical phase of reproductive health.
Furthermore, BMC has been a leading voice in promoting premarital health and screening, a key component of reproductive care. The widely attended Saudi Marriage Day campaigns, held both on-campus and at Jeddah International College, served as crucial platforms to educate students. These events, organized in alignment with the Ministry of Health, provided detailed resources on the national premarital screening program, explaining the diseases screened for and the options available to at-risk couples. By demystifying this process, BMC empowers students with the knowledge necessary for informed family planning, directly fulfilling the indicator's requirement for "information and education services."
Moreover, the college organized events on World AIDS Day in collaboration with the Ministry of Health to raise awareness about sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV, and the importance of regular check-ups. These campaigns emphasized the role of education in reducing stigma and ensuring that students are well-informed about SRH.
BMC's commitment is not limited to providing information; but extends to support through ensuring regular consultations, check-ups, and guidance through BMC’s team of expert gynecologists. This is important as it not only provides students with the necessary information but also assures them of a reliable and consistent support system.
Underpinning different health educational campaigns is BMC’s institutional framework that ensures this knowledge is supported by accessible services. The college facilitates student well-being through its infrastructure, which includes access to medical consultations. This establishes a system of free access to primary health support and guidance on campus, forming a reliable first point of contact for students that can triage and refer to specialized care as needed.
BMC’s multifaceted and deeply integrated strategy—encompassing direct menstrual and postpartum health education, large-scale awareness campaigns on premarital health, essential life-saving training, and a supportive on-campus health infrastructure—provides a comprehensive and demonstrable response to SRH for students. We are not only providing free access to essential information and primary support but also creating clear, structured pathways to specialized reproductive healthcare services. Through these concerted efforts, BMC is fostering a responsible, health-literate, and inclusive student community, fully equipped to protect its well-being and contribute to healthier generations.
