BMC's Commitment to Staff Mental Health Support
BMC is committed to the mental health and well-being of its staff, recognizing that a supported and resilient workforce is fundamental to academic excellence and a thriving campus community. Our approach is systematic, deeply integrated, and extends beyond basic service provision to foster a culture where mental well-being is actively promoted, freely accessible, and comprehensively supported through both institutional services and formal healthcare policies. This section details BMC’s multifaceted strategy, structured around the core commitment to its staff mental health.
Active Promotion of Good Mental Health for Staff
BMC proactively cultivates a positive, inclusive, and supportive workplace environment by embedding staff into a wide array of well-being initiatives, fostering a strong sense of community, and recognizing the importance of work-life balance.
Inclusive Wellness and Team-Building Events:
Saudi National Day Celebration: This annual major campus-wide event saw active participation from many academic and administrative staff members, working alongside students to foster national pride and community spirit. Such events are instrumental in reducing workplace isolation and building a strong, unified college culture.
Influencers Got Talent: This event was organized in Feb 2024 to alleviate academic stress, this event was supported by 6 academic and 4 administrative staff who served as hosts and judges. Their involvement demonstrates leadership participation in creating a joyful and engaging campus atmosphere, which directly benefits staff morale.
Pet Therapy Event: Co-organized by the Student Welfare and Dentistry Program units on Feb 2025, this event explicitly included staff, with 6 academic and 6 administrative staff participating. Interacting with pet therapy is a recognized, evidence-based method for reducing stress and promoting mental well-being.
Yoga Class & Annual Sports Day: These events provided staff with practical tools for stress management and mental focus, promoting physical health as a cornerstone of mental wellness through structured physical activities and teamwork.
Professional Engagement and Social Responsibility:
Staff are actively encouraged to lead and participate in meaningful, purpose-driven initiatives. Events such as the Green Jeddah Planting Initiative, in Sept 2024, Women Empowerment Event (Oct 2024) and the Founding Day Planting Initiative (Feb 2025) saw significant staff participation. Engaging in these community-oriented activities provides a profound sense of accomplishment and reinforces shared values, which are crucial for positive mental health.
Involvement in the School Forum for Medical Specialties (Jan 2025), where staff guided future healthcare leaders, provides a sense of professional fulfillment and reinforces their value within the institution.
Leadership in the Mental Health Innovation Forum: BMC hosted the "Mental Health Innovation Forum: From Idea to Impact" on 23 October 2025, in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce in Abha. This landmark event, themed "Strategies for Innovation in Mental Health for Community Growth," represents a pinnacle of our institutional commitment. It provides our academic and administrative staff with a premier platform to engage with cutting-edge research, innovative treatment models, and policy discussions. Participating in and contributing to this forum empowers our staff as thought leaders, enhancing their professional development and reinforcing their role at the forefront of community mental health advancement.
Access to Free Mental Health Support for Staff
BMC ensures that all employees have direct, confidential, and cost-free access to professional mental health resources through its dedicated institutional structures.
Centralized, Free Clinical Services:
Psychological Clinic in collaboration with the Student Welfare Unit is the cornerstone of BMC's support system, explicitly extending its services to the entire college community, including all faculty and staff. Staff have direct access to free, confidential individual and group counseling from qualified professionals and Psychologist. Support is available for a wide range of issues, including work-related stress, anxiety, interpersonal challenges, and personal development.
Workshops and Therapeutic Sessions: Staff are invited to attend workshops and sessions offered by the unit, such as "Exploring Mental Wellness: A Journey Through Experiential Therapy" (May 2024), which utilized art and music therapy. These provide staff with evidence-based tools for emotional regulation, resilience, and self-care at no cost.
Managerial and Institutional Support Structures:
The consistent approval and oversight of well-being events by senior leadership signal a top-down commitment to employee wellness. The collaborative nature of project management fosters an environment of peer support and open communication, serving as an informal but vital support network.
Access to Charged Mental Health Support for Staff
For staff requiring specialized, intensive, or long-term mental health care, BMC provides robust, formalized pathways to professional services through a combination of strategic partnerships and a comprehensive institutional health insurance policy.
Comprehensive, Policy-Backed Medical Insurance:
BMC’s Medical Insurance Policy (HR-POL-21) formally guarantees comprehensive healthcare coverage for all employees and their eligible family members. This policy ensures automatic access to a network of healthcare providers for various needs, including essential mental and behavioral health services.
The policy mandates coverage for "Hospital Charges for Medical operations and hospital stay" (encompassing in-patient psychiatric care) and "Visits, check-up, and medicines" (ensuring access to out-patient therapy and psychiatric consultations).
Referral Network through Institutional Partnerships:
BMC’s formalized powerful collaborations with specialized mental health providers serve as a vital resource. The MOUs signed with centers such as the National Center for Mental Health, Quweem Centers for Addiction and Rehabilitation, and Roshd Rehabilitation Center guarantee that staff can be referred to vetted, professional services for complex needs.
Seamless Integration of Systems:
The formal health insurance system works in synergy with BMC's external partnerships. The insurance provides the financial mechanism for staff to access these specialized services, while the college's partnerships ensure they are directed at high-quality, trusted care.
BMC exemplifies a best-practice model for supporting staff mental health through a seamless, three-pillar strategy. This is demonstrated through the active promotion of well-being via inclusive, culture-building events; the provision of direct, free access to confidential counseling and therapeutic workshops; and the foundational guarantee of comprehensive, charged mental health support, institutional health insurance policy and a robust network of external specialist partnerships. This holistic, proactive, and policy-driven approach ensures that every member of BMC’s staff feels valued, supported, and empowered to achieve both professional success and personal well-being.
