Collaboration for SDG Best Practice
BMC does not merely collaborate; it actively seeks to learn, adapt, and disseminate international best practices.
Global Collaboration: Importing and Disseminating SDG Best Practice:
BMC’s approach to global engagement is strategic: it does not merely collaborate, but actively seeks to learn, adapt, and disseminate international best practices to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This is achieved through a multi-faceted network of academic, professional, and accreditation partnerships.
Research and Professional Excellence: BMC’s commitment to collaborative research is demonstrated by its expansive Global Research Network. Scopus records show substantial research collaborations across over 90 international universities and 50 countries. Key partners include institutions in Egypt, India, United States, China, Australia, Brazil, and Switzerland, alongside 40+ other nations. This effort has resulted in the publication of high-quality scientific papers in specialized international journals. These publications highlight community challenges, review comparative approaches, and recommend best practices for addressing the SDGs.
Professional collaborations also elevate BMC’s standards. The association with the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists, by hosting their membership exams, strengthens BMC’s standing and contributes to the continuing professional development of regional practitioners. Moreover, the joint initiative with the American Heart Association to introduce the Basic Life Support (BLS) course directly elevates critical cardiovascular life support skills in the community.
Academic Development Partnerships: Key to importing global standards is BMC’s work with leading educational and research institutions. The partnership with Maastricht University, for instance, resulted in the development of a contemporary MBBS program, which is a direct adoption of international best practices in problem-based learning and integrated curricula. Similarly, collaboration with Harvard Medical School on accredited courses ensures that BMC’s teaching methodologies and content remain at the global forefront, constantly improving student competitiveness. Furthermore, Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with institutions like the University of Arizona and the Università degli Studi di Palermo explicitly include clauses for collaborative research and the exchange of best practices. These agreements allow BMC to review comparative international approaches to medical education, research commercialization, and effective community engagement, thereby developing stronger strategies for tackling the SDGs. These partnerships often feature student and faculty exchange programs, providing essential exposure and knowledge-sharing opportunities.
Accreditation and Global Standards: Maintaining international accreditation ensures BMC’s internal standards meet the highest global benchmarks. The Pharmacy program has held international accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) since 2018, confirming the quality of its continuing pharmacy education.
Additionally, accreditation by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT) signals BMC’s compliance with global standards in allied health, affirming its broad commitment to sustainable health and education best practices. Through these continuous partnerships and accreditations, BMC ensures its practices are globally informed and locally impactful.
