Strengthening Institutions and Fostering Peaceful Societies
BMC is dedicated to fostering peaceful, just, and inclusive societies, underpinned by strong and transparent institutions. Our commitment to SDG 16 is woven into the fabric of our academic, research, and student life, ensuring that future healthcare professionals are not only skilled but also ethical, responsible, and active citizens.
Our multi-faceted approach to advancing peace and justice includes:
1. Strengthening Institutional Integrity and Anti-Corruption
BMC proactively builds a culture of integrity and accountability. This is institutionalized through:
The BMC Ethics Committee: This formal body provides oversight and guidance on ethical research, ensuring all studies adhere to the highest standards concerning human dignity, animal welfare, and environmental responsibility. The committee's framework ensures transparency and accountability in all academic pursuits.
Integrity and Anti-Corruption Education: We move beyond policy to active education. For instance, the Nazaha Club organized a significant interactive lecture featuring a member of the official Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha). This event equipped students with critical thinking skills to recognize and combat corruption, directly reinforcing the rule of law and ethical governance.
2. Promoting Justice, Rule of Law, and Professional Accountability
We prepare our students to operate within a just legal and ethical framework, understanding their future responsibilities.
Legal Awareness for Practitioners: Workshops such as "Legal Responsibility of the Health Practitioner," led by a licensed legal consultant, educate students and alumni on their professional duties, medical errors, and disciplinary accountability. This empowers them to navigate the justice system and uphold the law in their practice.
Ethical Debates on Critical Issues: Our Debate Club and Talk Master Program regularly engage students in critical discourse on complex ethical and legal topics, such as the decriminalization of drugs and the ethical implications of AI and gene editing. These activities sharpen students' understanding of justice, ethics, and the societal impact of policy.
3. Fostering a Culture of Peace, Tolerance, and Inclusion
BMC cultivates a campus environment where diversity is celebrated, and peaceful coexistence is the norm.
Cross-Cultural Engagement and Dialogue: We actively promote mutual respect through events like the Nigerian Day celebration, which showcased the rich cultural heritage of our international student body. Similarly, the Saudi Founding Day and National Day celebrations fostered national pride and unity, while welcoming all to share in the cultural heritage.
Interfaith and Spiritual Support: The Islamic Youth Club plays a key role in fostering spiritual well-being and understanding through events like preparatory sessions for Ramadan and Quran competitions, creating an atmosphere of respect for religious practices.
Inclusive Community Building: Clubs like the Influencers Club and Karate Club host welcoming events and workshops on identity and self-discovery, ensuring every student feels a sense of belonging and is equipped to build a respectful and inclusive community.
4. Encouraging Social Responsibility and Civic Engagement
We instill a strong sense of civic duty and encourage students to be agents of positive change in society.
The Social Responsibility Unit and Forum: This unit is a driving force behind our community outreach. The inaugural Social Responsibility Forum 2025 brought together over 30 organizations to pioneer sustainable solutions in education and healthcare, strengthening collaboration between civic institutions.
Awareness and Volunteerism: Initiatives like the blood donation campaign "Let's Revive It," the Sustainable Food Security campaign, and the Ramadan Boxes project channel student energy into humanitarian efforts, promoting solidarity and a just society that cares for its vulnerable members.
Through these concerted efforts in education, institutional governance, and community engagement, BMC is committed to building a foundation of peace, justice, and strong ethical principles that our students will carry forward into the world.
