Shared Sports Facilities
Shared Sports Facilities
Institutional Commitment, Policy of Access, and Strategic Partnerships
BMC embodies a deep-seated commitment to Good Health and Well-being by strategically leveraging its infrastructure to serve as a cornerstone for community health. Recognizing that physical activity is a fundamental pillar of wellness, BMC has institutionalized a policy of sharing its extensive sports and recreational facilities with the Jeddah community. This report details our proactive initiatives to provide the local community, including schools, clubs, and the public, with access to our facilities, thereby transforming our campus into a dynamic hub for promoting active lifestyles and fostering collective well-being.
BMC’s operational framework includes a formal policy for shared facility use, designed to maximize community benefit. We actively cultivate partnerships with key governmental and civic organizations to amplify our reach and impact. These collaborations include:
Ministry of Sports: For large-scale public events and promotions.
Jeddah Municipality: For the use of public spaces like the Jeddah Waterfront.
Local Schools and Clubs: For regular access and collaborative tournaments.
This network ensures our facilities are not underutilized and directly address local needs for quality sports infrastructure.
Facility Sharing and Community Engagement
Our commitment is demonstrated through a diverse portfolio of events and access agreements that utilize BMC's sports facilities for community benefit:
Annual BMC Sports Day: A flagship event held on our campus in 2024/25 is the Sports Day on February 11, 2025, featured interactive booths and activities that engaged students, staff, and visitors, effectively opening our campus for a day dedicated to physical wellness and health education.
Inter-Collegiate Football Tournament: BMC's grounds served as the official venue for a multi-month football league from November 2024 to February 2025. This tournament brought together teams from neighboring colleges, culminating in a victory for BMC’s dentistry team. This event is a prime example of our facilities being used to foster community spirit and healthy competition beyond our own student body.
Open-Door Sports Facility Policy for Schools: BMC has established dedicated community partnership MoUs with numerous secondary schools in Jeddah, including, but not limited to: Isbiliah Secondary School; Al-Hamra International School; Al-Khandaq Secondary School; Al-Ahgaff School; Dar Al-Hanan School; Mohd Bin Al-Qasim Secondary School. Through these structured visits, school students gain access to BMC's diverse sports amenities, which typically include:
Outdoor Playgrounds and Sports Fields: For activities such as football, athletics, and other field sports.
Indoor Sports Halls: Suitable for basketball, volleyball, and other indoor games, especially during warmer periods.
Multipurpose Courts: Flexible spaces that can be adapted for various sports and recreational activities.
Community-Focused Fitness Events: The additional files highlight specific events that promote public access to sports. Notably, BMC, in partnership with the Jeddah Municipality, organized a "Bikeathon" at the Jeddah Waterfront to raise awareness for breast cancer. This event encouraged mass public participation in physical activity, extending our campus boundaries into the heart of the city. Furthermore, events like the "Jeddah Marathon" and the "Walk for Health" initiative see BMC as a key participant and often a starting point or partner, leveraging our institutional credibility to promote fitness to a broad audience.
Student Club Initiatives: BMC's vibrant student clubs regularly organize activities that involve the community. Clubs dedicated to walking, biking, and horse riding frequently conduct joint sessions with students from other institutions, using the college as a gathering point and thereby sharing our culture of active living.
Models of Facility Access
To ensure the sustainability and inclusivity of our sharing program, BMC employs a dual-model approach:
Free Access: This is provided for major community events such as the Annual Sports Day, the Bikeathon, and inter-school competitions. The primary goal of these events is community engagement and public health promotion, and access is granted without charge.
Charged Access (Partnership Model): For the regular, scheduled use of our facilities by established local sports clubs or for certain private events, a minimal fee structure is applied. This model is not for profit but is essential for covering maintenance, security, and operational costs, ensuring the long-term viability and high quality of the facilities for all users.
BMC’s dedication to SDG 3 extends far beyond the classroom and clinic. By actively opening our sports facilities to the community, we provide a vital resource that encourages physical activity, builds social cohesion, and promotes a holistic culture of health. Our documented partnerships and events, from on-campus tournaments to city-wide fitness initiatives, provide tangible proof of our commitment. BMC remains steadfast in its mission to be a leader in community health, continuously seeking new avenues to share our resources and champion the well-being of Jeddah’s residents.
