Current Collaborations with Health Institutions
Batterjee Medical College demonstrates a profound and strategically layered commitment to improving health and well-being outcomes. Our approach is not merely to establish partnerships but to cultivate deep, synergistic relationships that create a continuous cycle of improvement in healthcare education, service delivery, continuous professional development, and collaborative research. This is achieved through an intentional three-tiered framework of local, national, and global cooperation, ensuring that our impact is felt directly within our community, across the Kingdom, and as part of the international health dialogue.
Local Collaborations: Embedding Ourselves in Community Health
At the local level, BMC’s strategy is to integrate directly with Jeddah's healthcare ecosystem, transforming the city into an extended classroom and a platform for community service. Our active Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with major hospitals such as Dr. Samir Abbas Hospital, Alsalamh Hospital, and Aya Specialist Hospital are fundamental to this mission. These are not symbolic agreements; they are operational frameworks that facilitate essential clinical rotations for our students, providing them with indispensable hands-on experience.
Furthermore, they create a vital pipeline for employment, ensuring our graduates can immediately contribute to the local healthcare workforce. Our collaboration extends to specialized clinics, such as the partnership with NeoCare Dental Clinic, which provides advanced, real-world training for our dental students and board residents in complex procedures like same-day comprehensive dental rehabilitation. These local alliances with entities like Alandalusiah and IMC also form the backbone of our community outreach, enabling joint health awareness campaigns and preventive care programs that directly improve public health literacy and accessibility for the citizens of Jeddah.
National Collaborations: Strengthening Saudi Arabia's Healthcare Ecosystem
BMC’s national partnerships are strategically aligned with the Kingdom’s public health priorities, focusing on building capacity in critical or underserved areas of medicine. We have established a robust network of collaborations with leading national centers specializing in mental health and rehabilitation, including Sajeya Rehabilitation Center, Motmaenna Medical Complex, Rushd Rehabilitation Center, and Qaweem Convalescence Company. These MOUs facilitate a powerful exchange: our students gain clinical training in psychotherapy and addiction medicine, while our faculty engages in joint research projects aimed at improving treatment protocols and patient outcomes. This directly contributes to national efforts to destigmatize and effectively treat mental health conditions.
Another key initiative in 2024/25 is our continued collaboration with King Abdullah University for Science and Technology (KAUST) to explore the role of artificial intelligence in medicine. This partnership is pivotal for fostering innovation in medical sciences and providing young researchers with the necessary tools and platforms to develop high-tech solutions in healthcare.
Our commitment to inclusivity and equitable healthcare is further evidenced by our deep engagements with associations supporting people with disabilities. Collaborations with the Saudi Association for Hearing Disability, the Saudi Autism Society, and the First Autism Center in Jeddah involve training our staff in sign language, co-organizing public awareness seminars, and providing targeted healthcare services.
Most recently, this commitment was highlighted when BMC partnered with Atrafi for Orthosis and Prosthesis and 18 other organizations to celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The event, which included the signing of new MOUs, was aimed at empowering persons with disabilities, promoting inclusivity, and raising awareness about the challenges faced by this community. Similarly, our partnership with the Life Message Association to combat addiction through research and community programs underscores a comprehensive approach to national well-being. Complementing these efforts, BMC's fruitful partnership with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS), through the BMC Dentistry Clinical Attachment Program, continues to offer young dentists a hands-on experience, enabling them to work closely with residents and consultants in specialized settings. This approach effectively bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application, preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals to tackle some of the most pressing health challenges faced by Saudi society.
Global Cooperation: Integrating International Excellence and Best Practices
BMC’s international collaborations are a cornerstone of our identity, designed to infuse global standards, innovative research, and educational excellence into every aspect of our operations. Through regional and international collaboration and joint research projects, BMC reviews comparative approaches and develops international best practice on tackling the SDGs. Our partnerships with world-renowned institutions are a testament to this commitment.
Our International Memorandum of Agreement with the University of Arizona is a prime example, facilitating collaborative research in pharmaceutical sciences and enabling valuable faculty and student exchanges. Similarly, our partnership with Università degli Studi di Palermo in Italy promotes academic cooperation in emerging fields like Health and Wellness Tourism. These relationships are catalysts for innovation, pooling expertise and resources for groundbreaking research that often results in high-quality scientific papers published in international specialized journals, addressing global health challenges and propelling the SDG agenda forward.
Our collaboration with Harvard Medical School through its Office for Online Learning brings prestigious HMX courses to our students, while our partnership with Maastricht University was instrumental in formulating a contemporary, problem-based MBBS program. These alliances ensure our curriculum remains at the forefront of global medical education. This pursuit of excellence is further validated by international accreditations; our Pharmacy program has been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) since 2018, and our programs have been recognized by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT).
A significant milestone in our commitment to world-class professional development was achieved in September 2025, when BMC, in collaboration with The Stanford Center for Health Education and the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS), offered a specialized Healthcare Leadership program for the first time in Saudi Arabia. This program equips Saudi healthcare professionals with the tools and strategies to lead effectively in today’s complex environments, earning them a certificate from Stanford and further solidifying our role in developing the Kingdom's healthcare leaders.
Beyond academia, our global engagement includes pivotal partnerships with professional bodies. Another milestone for BMC is its association with the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists, during which the college played host for the membership exams, elevating our status in the global medical community. Furthermore, the introduction of the Basic Life Support (BLS) course in collaboration with the American Heart Association has been a key initiative, systematically elevating life-support skills among students and professionals alike. To ensure our students and faculty have access to the best tools, our partnership with AMBOSS GmbH provides a leading international e-learning platform, directly enhancing learning outcomes.
Synthesis and Impact: From Collaboration to Tangible Health Outcomes
The true measure of this multi-tiered collaborative model lies in its tangible impact on health services. Local partnerships provide the clinical bedrock for our students' education. National alliances allow us to address Saudi-specific health priorities with focused expertise. Global cooperation ensures that our methods, research, and standards are continuously refined against international benchmarks. Together, they enable a powerful ecosystem where Continuous Medical Education (CME) is standard, community health initiatives are robust, and collaborative research tackles health challenges from the community clinic to the global stage. Through this integrated and strategic network, BMC not only fulfills but exemplifies the spirit of SDG 3, creating a sustainable and impactful framework that perpetually advances health and well-being for all.
