Relationships with Regional NGOs and Government for SDG Policy
BMC’s involvement in national government SDG policy development is a testament to its commitment to being a thought leader and a reliable partner in national development, directly aligned with Saudi Vision 2030. The institution functions as a crucial conduit between academic research, practical healthcare delivery, and public policy formulation.
Direct Involvement with Key Ministries:
Ministry of Health (MOH): BMC’s collaboration with the MOH is multifaceted. It extends beyond curriculum alignment to include joint public health initiatives, such as breast and lung cancer awareness as well as infectious diseases and environmental health campaigns documented across multiple programs. Faculty and students provide on-the-ground data and community feedback that can inform national health strategies, particularly in non-communicable disease prevention and health promotion.
Ministry of Education (MOE): BMC partnership with MOE had multifaced collaborations; through collaboration with many local schools such as Dar Al Hanan Schools and Dar Al Ziker, BMC students have been actively involved in delivering health education sessions to schoolchildren in addition to school awareness campaigns. On the other hand, BMC contributes to elevating national standards in medical education. Its internationally accredited programs (e.g., Pharmacy by ACPE, Occupational Therapy by WFOT) serve as benchmarks. Through its partnership with the MOE, BMC provides input on developing curricula that are globally competitive yet locally relevant, ensuring the Kingdom’s future healthcare workforce is prepared to tackle both current and emerging health challenges.
Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (MHRSD): This relationship is central to BMC's social equity mission. The "EHSAN" scholarship for orphans under the care of the Ministry is a direct policy-in-action, providing equitable access to high-quality education. Furthermore, collaborations on events like the "Sawasciah" camp with King Abdulaziz University, which focused on universal design and the elderly, demonstrate BMC's role in informing policies on aging and inclusivity.
Ministry of Hajj and Umra: BMC’s engagement involves contributing expertise to health security and mass gathering medicine policies. By understanding the unique health challenges of the Hajj, BMC can advise on strategies for disease surveillance, emergency response, and public health communication, ensuring the safety of millions of pilgrims.
Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF): This is crucial partnership for preparing Saudi youth for the workforce. HRDF provides financial support for training and qualifying young Saudis for private-sector jobs. Through this effort, BMC empowers the next generation, boosts employment prospects (especially for youth and women), and directly contributes to poverty reduction in rural areas.
General Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises (MONSHA’AT): Another key collaboration which is central to fostering entrepreneurship across the Kingdom. This collaboration gives BMC students, alumni, and young entrepreneurs access to innovative programs, funding, and mentorship. By doing so, BMC helps build a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem that creates jobs, drives economic development, and fights poverty through the growth of competitive small businesses.
Collaboration with Municipal and Healthcare Entities:
Jeddah Municipality: Partnerships focus on urban health, with BMC providing expertise for public health campaigns and environmental initiatives like the "Green Jeddah Planting" events, which align with urban sustainability goals (SDG 11).
Major Hospitals (King Fahd Armed Forces Hospital, Saudi German Hospital, etc.): These are not just clinical training sites but partners in developing best practices. The data collected from student-led screenings and community outreach (e.g., asthma awareness in the Alhamdaniah neighborhood) feeds into a broader understanding of community health needs, influencing local healthcare delivery models and preventive strategies.
