Doctor Strange and the Mystic Arts

Replacing Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular is a new indoor theater hosting the special effects stunt show Doctor Strange and the Mystic Arts. The exterior of the theater will be the Sanctum Sanctorum from the film, and the queue/lobby will be in the Sanctum's gallery of various magical artifacts. The show itself will be 16 minutes, and will show off Doctor Strange appearing through a portal, him "flying" around utilizing a harness and wires, and doing some martial arts demonstrations with some students there with him today. However everything goes wrong when Kaecilius and his goons show up! They start wreaking havoc as various props start to fly around the stage, and the theater is transformed into the Mirror Dimension via projections and elaborate catwalks lowered in on the stage that move around as the characters fight and chase down one another. Strange is able to lock them away in the Mirror Dimension and returns to the stage using his powers to reset the whole theater, and thanks guests for attending this demonstration of the mystic arts.

Mickey's Stardust Circus Parade

Hurry, hurry, hurry! Step right up and see the most astounding circus parade of your life! With all the festivities going on for Disney World’s 50th Anniversary, parades were a topic that came up for the Imagineers. Sure, a new parade at Magic Kingdom is always a great treat, but what about another park? Disney’s Hollywood Studios had not seen a regular parade happen since Pixar Pals Countdown to Fun! Ended back in 2013. So, the decision was made to create a brand new daytime parade for the park, using Mickey Mouse and his iconic band of friends for the parade’s characters. Rather than just do something generally related to films, however, the choice was made to lean into that sense of stardom and performance through a different avenue: A circus!

Starting at the exit gate near Star Tours, the parade starts with the arrival of a circus train. Not just any circus train, however, as Casey Jr. leads the parade path. Mickey Mouse (dressed in a ringmaster’s suit and top hat) rides aboard Casey Jr. and eagerly waves to the crowd, as a float resembling colorful train cars decorated with circus imagery follows behind. Carnival barkers follow along the train, entertaining the crowd with some light footwork and skillful juggling.

Following that comes The Clown, as Pluto (with a frilled neck collar and pointed clown hat) waves to the crowd on a cobbled-together platform supported atop a classic clown car. Meanwhile, a float depicting a colorful warehouse space featuring oversized props like pies and mallets follows the clown car. A whole cast of colorful clowns follow along on the street and on the float, getting some laughs as they perform their pratfalls and physical comedy.

After that comes The Strongman, with Donald Duck (wearing a leopard-print leotard like an old-timey strongman) standing atop a platform supported by two muscular statues. Behind him is a float that looks like a brightly colored gym, where old-timey weights sit all around and a strength tester machine periodically sends it disc flying up to the bell. Strong performers are also as well, performing some impressive dancing that’s mixed in with boastful flexing and posing.

Following that comes The Magician, as Daisy Duck (wearing a tuxedo coat with matching black vest) shows off with her magic wand while standing atop a large top hat. The float behind her is a starry landscape that is decorated with playing card in a swooping fashion, as two large gloves (simple animatronics) wave to the passing crowd. Magic-themed showgirls dance alongside the float, as stage magicians in their old-school getup perform magic tricks for the crowd.

Next arrives The Stuntman, as Goofy (in his Great Goofini outfit) stands on a platform that looks rather preciously balanced. The float that follows along looks like a well-worn theater filled with some of the various pieces of stuntwork, like a large cannon, a spinning wheel from a knife-throwing act (with knives still stuck in the wheel), and even the crashed remains of a plane. Meanwhile, stunt performers show off their skills with eyecatching stage fights that almost move like a dance.

Finally, the parade reaches its grand finale with The Acrobat, as Minnie Mouse (in sparkling leotard) stands atop a raised platform. The float features the classic three ring set-up, with three tentpoles in the center of each. A tightrope connects the tentpoles, serving as a path for acrobats to walk along in the air. The most eye-catching thing here, however, is what’s above the center tentpole: Dumbo! The iconic flying elephant “flies” around the central tentpole thanks to a mobile setup, while other acrobats on the parade path entertain with astounding flips and tumbles.

With the final act presented in this grand circus parade, the parade follows along its route down Hollywood Boulevard to an exit located near the park’s entrance.

Fantasmic! 2.0

As part of the 50th anniversary offerings Fantasmic! reopened with whole new scenes dispersed throughout the show's runtime. Many of the older scenes featuring the Lion King, Pocahontas, and Jafar were replaced with scenes for newer films and characters. New fountain nozzles were installed utilizing the World of Color technology allowing for the jets of water have even more color than before. New projection technology was installed in the amphitheater allowing for projections to bring to life the stage. Throughout the amphitheater seating area new towers were installed. These towers contain small spotlights, lasers, and even a bubble machine! These towers retract in and out of their base during and after showtime. Seating will be rearranged so no seats are available directly behind these towers to limit the obscuring of views.

Preshow

During the preshow pop covers of various Disney songs play. Roaming the amphitheater will be cast members selling popcorn, bottled beverages, and light up toys.

For we now invite you to join Mickey and experience Fantasmic!—a journey beyond your wildest imagination.

Scene 1: Sorcerer's Apprentice

The classic beginning to Fantasmic begins to play out as the towers on the main stage and throughout and the audience begin to rise. The towers on the main stage swirl around spotlights all over the amphitheater as the towers within the audience area use dimmed colored spotlights to swirl over the audience. Mickey Mouse soon appears onstage dancing and controlling the various fountains to the show's theme. Mickey swooshes up the water screens.

Mist projection screens show scenes from Fantasia as the music changes to The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. From there, the falling stars from the scene become dew drops on various flowers.

Scene 2: Coco

Through the cast members in petal costume, a Mexican Violet appears as its petals open and close throughout the performance. The projections meanwhile show various flowers from Mexico including the famed marigolds used for Dia de Los Muertos. The Marigolds begin to spin and fall apart as it builds the Bridge of Marigolds from Coco.

A remix of Proud Corazon and Remember Me begins to play. On the water, rafts float gently by. They're decorated with music notes, sugar skulls, marigold petals, and banners from Dia de los Muertos all incorporated into the design of the lights of each raft. Two rafts will be populated with four dancers costumed to look they're from the Land of the Dead. The middle raft will contain Mama Imelda and Hector as they dance along to the music. On the main island a large alebrije snake controlled by cast members appears as it slithers around the island. Throughout the island additional alebrijes appear resembling animals both mythical and real through puppet form. Projected onto the island are various flying alebrijes that perch around the island, and fight amongst each other for a spot to sit at.

Both the dancers and alebrijes will be illuminated with black light to make the entire scene pop out more, and give viewers a more colorful experience. The scene segues into the Bubble Montage.

Scene 3: Bubble Montage

Throughout the bubble montage the towers throughout the audience area emit bubbles from their installed bubble machines. Colored spotlights from the towers will also circle around the guests bringing them more into the montage.

Songs and films within the bubble montage:v

- The World Es Mi Familia from Coco

- Hakunna Matatta from The Lion King

- He's A Tramp from Lady and the Tramp

- Hawaiian Rollercoaster Ride from Lilo & Stitch

- Define Gravity from Wall-E

- Wreck It - Ralph (As Try Everything ends)

Jiminy Cricket appears onscreen, underwater searching for Pinocchio. An animated Monstro appears suddenly, accompanied by a heavy musical score as he crashes through water. Giant water splashes shoot out from each direction as Monstro lands back in the water. The sea morphs into the flood scene from the Sorcerer's Apprentice flood scene. As Mickey looks around in the dark the scenes fades until it transforms into a winter flurry. The screens disappear, and projections cover the hills on the stage with a layer of ice and snow.

Scene 4: Frozen

Much like the Pocahontas scene the Frozen scene takes many creative liberties when it comes to representing the plot of the movies.

The scene opens up with the mist screens depicting Elsa shooting out ice spikes during her coronation to which the Duke of Weselton declares witchcraft and sorcery. The screens disappear as the Duke of Weselton yells out to his guard to seize Elsa. Elsa comes running out from stage right dressed in her coronation gown as the Weselton Guard are in hot pursuit. As they chase Else up to the second level of the stage the Duke of Weselton appears from stage left as Anna and the Arendellian Guard appear. Anna pleads for the Duke to call of his men to no avail which leads to a sword fight between Arendellian and Weselton Guard. Elsa is able to run off stage as the mist screens appear once more showing Elsa running away on the fjord, freezing Arendelle.

Elsa reappears in her ice queen dress from the first film as the mist screens dissipate. This leads to her performing Let It Go on stage. Whenever she moves her hands the fountains seem to follow, so if she shoots ice to the left the left fountains will activate along with the giant splash that occurs with Monstro. The mist screens turn on playing the verse in the song within the ice palace that starts with "My power flurries through the air into the ground", but once that verse end the screens go quiet as the vocalizations from Into the Unknown and Show Yourself. Projections show the various runes and spirits made from dust dancing around the hills of the theater, and suddenly Elsa appears on top of the hills in her Show Yourself dress belting out Show Yourself. The towers within the audience activate once more sending our blue and white spotlights over the audience with the song matching the majesty of the performances. Projections show the various images from the ice in Show Yourself achieving the duet between her and her mother. The scene goes dark as Elsa finishes.

Scene 5: True Love

The mist screens open up as it shows Megara from Hercules saying "People do crazy things when they're in love". This segues into the True Love montage set to the songs of Someday My Prince Will Come, I See the Light, and Beauty and the Beast. Three barges come out containing Snow White and The Prince, Rapunzel and Flynn, and finally Belle and the Beast. Snow White and Belle's barges remain the same while Rapunzel's is covered in depictions of the sun and lanterns.

Scene 6: True Villainy

The music takes on an ominous tone as Mickey's dream takes a turn for the worse. The Evil Queen on stage, calling for her magic mirror—which appears on screen in animated form. Angered by Mickey's optimistic imagination, she transforms herself into The Witch, and calls in her most sinister friends; Ursula, Cruella De Vil, Jafar, Judge Frollo, and Dr.Facilier. Who all ecstatically joins the Queen's plot to destroy Mickey. Dr. Facilier decides to take on Mickey himself by calling in his "friends" as they take over the stage. Dr. Facilier's friends are various large puppets depicting shadows on a stick and dancers dressed in rags looking like voodoo dolls. On the hills of the theater various tribal masks from Facilier's Parlor appear. They run around chasing Mickey causing mischief as the Dr laughs maniacally, but while celebrating Mickey is able to get to Facielier's talisman and destroys it! The mist screens open up again showing Facilier being sucked into the Underworld. Hades appears calling upon Chernabog who summons the deceased spirits . He summons Maleficent who threatens Mickey, now in his Brave Little Tailor outfit, as she transforms herself into an enormous dragon. Replacing the former "dragon on a stick" is a replica of the Disneyland dragon. The dragon shoots a fire ball bellow causing the the waters become ablaze. Mickey faces the dragon, claiming that he is in control of his own imagination, and defeats the dragon, and thus destroying all the villains in the process.

Scene 7: Magic is Restored

Everything is silent, until Tinker Bell and her fairy friends all appear restoring the dreams of the world. As they leave magical stars sparkle on the stage as Steamboat Willie approaches. A spark of pyrotechnics ignite from Steamboat Willie, revealing black and white Mickey in Steamboat Willie attire. The vessel glides past the audience, carrying several dozens of Disney characters as a celebratory atmosphere prevails. With another flash, Mickey appears atop the highest point of the stage as the Sorcerer's Apprentice as he controls a final series of water, fireworks, laser and light orchestrations. Mickey disappears and reappears onstage in his formal attire from the beginning of the show, bidding the audience farewell and disappears once again in a bright blast of fireworks.
