John 18:36-39
What is Truth
36 Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.”
37 “You are a king, then!” said Pilate.
Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”
38 “What is truth?” retorted Pilate. With this he went out again to the Jews gathered there and said, “I find no basis for a charge against him. 39 But it is your custom for me to release to you one prisoner at the time of the Passover. Do you want me to release ‘the king of the Jews’?”
John 14:6-7
Jesus Says that He is Truth
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
1 John 4:8
God is LOVE
8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
I sometimes watch one station on cable TV and then intentionally leave that station and turn on another one...The two stations generally are talking about the same thing or similar things, yet their points of view sometimes seem to be opposite of one another...One viewpoint cannot be true ,if the other station is telling us the truth...The parties and guests use their words carefully and it seems as one listens that both are trying to tell us the truth...If words are truth then are both sides are telling us the truth, or at least some part of the truth...But truth seems to be more than words as you watch and listen to the different guests...If truth are just words and only words, then the most articulate, the best orator, and the one best with words is the one telling the truth...And there is a large group that believes one station and another large group that believes the other station...
The question that comes to my mind as I listen to both these stations is the one that Pilate ask Jesus two thousand years ago...That question is “What is Truth?.”...And which point of view is really telling the truth?...Because both stations cannot be telling us the Truth, because Truth by its very nature is exclusive and cannot be both...Because the statement that red is red is true...And also the statement that blue is blue is also true...Truth cannot be red one minute and blue the next minute...And truth is more than just an opinion of one or many people...
What prompted Pilate to ask this question of what is truth, is that Jesus had told him, “You say that I AM a King...In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth...Everyone on the side of truth listens to Me.”...So we learn from Jesus that He came to earth to testify to the Truth...Jesus had earlier and right before His arrest and being handed over to Pilate told His Disciples that He is Truth...So if one believes Jesus, then Truth is more than just words...Truth is a Person...So Jesus is our Absolute Truth and we look to Him to find the Truth...Jesus wants us to believe in the Truth, and He wants us to believe in God...He wants us to have faith in the Truth...He wants us to believe in the Truth, so the Truth will set us free...
As I watch both these stations I can almost feel that there is no love lost between the two stations...And that is where I think the problem is...When John writes that God is LOVE, and he also tells us the Jesus is Truth...There is this Grand Connection between LOVE and Truth...Jesus says if we really know Him, then we know God as well...If God is LOVE and Jesus is Truth, how can there not be this Grand Connection of LOVE and Truth...I believe when and where we find LOVE, we also find Truth...And in heaven, maybe LOVE and Truth are Completely Together and are ONE...
