Deuteronomy 6:1-9
Teach Your Children About God
1 These are the commands, decrees and laws the LORD your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, 2 so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the LORD your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life. 3 Hear, O Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the LORD, the God of your fathers, promised you.
4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. 5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.
1 John 4:8
God is LOVE
8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
Matthew 7:12 (ESV)
The Golden Rule
12 “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
Matthew 7:24-29
The Wise and Foolish Builders
24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29 because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.
When we embrace the Word of God, we believe that we have Someone is watching over us and it is God and His Son...And God has given people a conscience and they feel guilty when they do something wrong and He is our Judge...Without God being over us people have a free rein to do what they please and to do any act they personally feel impelled to do...Without God, we can lie, cheat, take what others have, hurt others, treat others with no respect, and do really bad things to others because there are no consequences...There is no reason or logic to do good without God...Why would there be a reason in your eyes to be good and kind and ethical without God, if there is no heaven or hell and no God?...
But if God is LOVE, doesn't it make perfect sense that He wants all of us to be kind and courteous and good to others?...That's what LOVE does, it treats other people with dignity, kindness, and respect...Doesn't it make sense that He wants us to seek Him and believe in Him and a a biblical worldview and an opinion about His Word?...And if morality is not derived from God, then where and how do you explain where and how morality exists?...
So the atheism world view and belief is a difficult one to explain to children and to why they should be kind and courteous and morally good...God and His Son want us to realize the foundation of the idea of following His Son and doing what He taught on earth...The ultimate Way, and Truth is Jesus and His Father...Jesus said, “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock...The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock...But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand...The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”...When Jesus taught this lesson the crowds were amazed not only with this teaching but all of His teachings...Jesus taught as One who had authority, and not as the other teachers of the law....And He teaches us that we should treat others and our neighbors with respect and love, the same way we want to be treated...
