The Shop is available to students, staff, and faculty from Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design and the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning for work on class projects and research only. Potential users from other academic disciplines must be receiving credit for a class taught by a faculty member from the Art or Architecture schools. All users must attend a Woodshop Orientation before gaining access to the space. Additionally, all users must receive Proficiency Training on each piece of equipment before use.
The Shop provides wood glue only. No tape is provided. Please plan to bring your own tape and any speicalty glues like superglue or epoxy. Click here for more details.
Some tools may be loaned out at staff discretion, depending on level of demand and how many are available. No power tools may leave the Shop (i.e. dremels, palm sanders, jig saws, etc.). You must leave your MCard as collateral. The expectation is that you use the tool and return it immediately--no long term loans.
No, clamps must be used in the Shop.
Yes, carts may be loaned out at staff discretion. You must leave your MCard as collateral, and the expectation is that you use the cart and return it immediately--no long term loans.
We prioritize keeping work areas open for use (keep in mind that the Shop serves up to 2,000 people), so storage space is limited. Please make plans to store your materials and projects elsewhere, and bring them into the Shop only when you are ready to work.
The Shop may only be used for class projects and research.
