Breast Self-Exams (BSE) should be done MONTHLY
Clinical Breast Exams should be done annually by a healthcare provider.
TWU Student Health Services (SHS) is your on-campus healthcare provider. You can make appts online through your TWU Patient Portal
Breast cancer death rates have slowly decreased since 1989, for an overall decline of 43% through 2020. This is in part due to better screening and early detection efforts, increased awareness, and continually improving treatment options.
Student Health Services (SHS) can provide medical services For TWU Students. SHS promotes health and wellness of students through primary, women's and psychiatric healthcare services. Our providers can see students in-person at our clinic on the Denton Campus, and online via Tele-Health. Breast Health Tip: Lumps can be benign. Which means they are not cancerous.
If you feel a lump, it's important to get it checked out by a Healthcare Professional.

Women who receive regular screenings for breast cancer have a 26% lower breast cancer death rate than women who do not receive screenings.
Approximately 15% of women diagnosed have a family history of breast cancer. Those with a first-degree relative (mother, sister, daughter) with breast cancer are nearly twice as likely to develop breast cancer themselves.
SHS Health Promotion hosts health awareness events (such as this one), health programs, presentations & online resources to support student health & wellness.

PATH is a group of Health Promotion student Peer Educators who host health and wellbeing activities to create a healthier campus. You can find PATH members on campus educating about breast health, sexual health, healthy relationships, drugs and alcohol, impaired driving, nutrition, stress management & more!

Breast Health Tip: Actions you can take to reduce your risk are known as avoidable risk factors.
Things you can change to reduce your risk of breast cancer include:
Nutrition - Eating nutritiously balanced meals
Movement (exercise) -Get at least 30 mins/per day
Alcohol Use - Limit alcohol intake
Tobacco Use - Quit or Don't Start (This includes vaping!)
