ELA- This week we practiced decoding (sounding out and blending back together) CVC words. Students looked at pictures of items then chose the word that goes with the picture, decoded a word and chose the picture that it goes with, isolated beginning, middle, and ending sounds, and circled the word that was dictated to them.
We are continuing to focus on individual letters, letter sounds, and writing each lowercase letter on handwriting paper. We worked on n during the week while continuing to work with the letters we have worked on so far: m, a, t, o, d, c, g, i, n. We have also been working daily to stretch/slide and blend words based on the letter sounds we hear. Check out the video on ClassDojo (in the Helpful Links for Homework Activities event) to see what stretching, sliding and blending looks like.
Students are also working to differentiate between vowels and consonants. Sometimes we write our CVC words (consonant, vowel, consonant words) with a red and blue crayon. The consonants get written in blue and the vowels in red.
Math- We continued really focusing on our number writing (formation) and number words. All together we have worked on numbers 0-10. We have also begun skip counting by 10s as we are nearing our 100th day of school!
Social Studies- We wrapped up our Journeys Unit and took an assessment to see if we could differentiate between whether a statement was something a Puritan would say or something Christopher Columbus would say. The class did a great job with it!
We have begun our study of colonial times and the differences between living in the country and living in town. We have talked about famers and tradespeople. Specifically the miller, the baker, the weaver, and the sewer.
Bible Study- We learned the story of The Battle of Jericho (Joshua 6:1-20). God rescued His people from the Canaanites. God gave His people a new land. God saves HIs people from their enemies and blesses them.
Manner Mini Unit - We have continued our unit on manners words, manners, and table manners. We will wrap up this unit with a special manners meal celebration on Tues. Nov. 24th.
FOOTBALL FRIDAYS
September 11th through the end of the NFL season
It’s Mr. Klemp’s favorite time of year….football season! All students are welcomed to sport their favorite NFL football team by wearing an NFL team’s t-shirt or jersey every Friday through the end of the season. K-8 students must wear uniform bottoms. No NFL jackets, hats, sweatshirts, etc.. This is for NFL teams only. It will be fun to see which teams are campus favorites!
