ELA - We wrapped up our unit about Nursery Rhymes and poems. Our final 2 nursery rhymes were "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and "Star Light Star Bright"
This week we continued working on decoding (sounding out and blending back together) CVC words. Students looked at pictures of items then chose the word that goes with the picture, decoded a word and chose the picture that it goes with, isolated beginning, middle, and ending sounds, and circled the word that was dictated to them.
We are continuing to focus on individual letters, letter sounds, and writing each lowercase letter on handwriting paper. We reviewed all the letters we have worked on so far: k, x, y, j, w, u, m, a, t, o, d, c, g, i, n, s, f, h, e, p, z, l, b, r and v. We have also been working daily to stretch/slide and blend words based on the letter sounds we hear.
Students are also working to differentiate between vowels and consonants. Sometimes we write our CVC words (consonant, vowel, consonant words) with a red and blue crayon. The consonants get written in blue and the vowels in red.
Math- We completed our unit on graphing. Students worked hard collecting data, sorting and organizing it, then setting up a graph and filling in the boxes to show how many. Our final graph was graphing the different colors of candy hearts that we got for Valentines Day.
Bible Study - We learned the story of when Jesus chose His disciples. Jesus told Peter, Andrew, James and John to catch men instead of fish. In total, Jesus called 12 men to follow after and learn from Him. God calls His people to be His helpers, to share His love, and to tell others about Jesus.
Art - We illustrated what we look like wishing upon a star. Then we shared what we would wish for.
Students had a virtual visitor come to the classroom on Friday. It was my mom! She read Valentine stories to them, shared songs with them, and we even had a worksheet to complete with her too!
22nd Scholastic Book Orders are due. If you need help ordering online please let me know.
