Indian Classical Music

About this unit:

In this unit you will examine how music is used and performed in a non Western Culture (India). You will develop an awareness of the cultural and historical background of Indian music through listening and compositional tasks.

What's in it for me?

You will develop your knowledge and skills in areas such as scales, improvisation and notation. You will become aware of the terms raga and tala and know how they are constructed, composed and performed. You will discriminate between Indian and other ethnic music and know the names of common Indian musical instruments.
