Time Signatures
Vertical black bars called bar lines divide the staff into bars
This staff has been split into two bars
Time signatures define the amount and type of notes that each measure contains.
The first bar is in 4/4 and the second bar is in 3/4
This means the first bar contains four crotchets
The second measure contains three crotchets
Note Lengths
Ta Ta Ta Ta
This note is called a crotchet, it is worth 1 beat.
Te - te Te - te Te - te Te - te
This note is called a quaver, it is worth 1/2 beat.
Above you can see two quavers paid together , they are still worth half a beat each.
