Zentangles

September 25, 2018

The subject of my creation is honestly just my creativity on a piece of paper. I didn't have much inspiration while drawing these, but I really tried to just do my best to create what I would have wanted on my body. I pretty much used just one simple material, and that is a pencil. I chose the designs that I did because I honestly really enjoy how they look. For example, I used my birthday in roman numerals because I thought it would look cool in one of these designs.

I used the rule of thirds technique by splitting the small boxes up based on what I wanted them to contain. Like if I wanted a flower in one, I would draw a flower in that box. Once again, I just used my imagination and my likings to create these, I just went with the flow and continued to try new things throughout the sketching.

There isn't much of a story behind these designs, I honestly just kept my hand moving and went with whatever looked good or cool. I really really enjoyed doing this project because I was able to put my own designs that I liked into what I wanted each to look like. I enjoyed the freedom we received. I think that one thing that I could have done to make this artwork stronger, I think I could've made more lines look darker, and bolder. Other than that I really like how this turned out..

Moonrise, Sunset

October 1, 2018

The setting of my project is a sunset and a moonrise. Representing the daytime leaving and the nighttime arriving. To create this project, I used graphite, a black ball point pen, and colored pencils. I chose to create this specific drawing because my original idea was to just do a nice sunset, but then I realized that's so basic, and boring. So I decided to add the moonrise to kind of change it up a bit.

For this piece and for pretty much all my pieces, I use the rule of thirds technique. I started by splitting up the moonrise side and the sunset side, then separated the two different colors of the ocean. One thing that I had revised and changed a few times was the color of the water, I wanted it to be darker on the moonrise side, but I knew it would be hard to make those lines less harsh, which I then realized that it wasn't that harsh when I had done it.

The story behind this piece is actually quite short. I put leaves a certain way on a piece of paper, I drew it, and made something out of the negative space, leaving the positive space empty. This project relates to my life because I really like sunsets and I have an interest in the moon, I love when it rises halfway full or a quarter full. I really love the sky honestly. To be honest, I am actually very happy with the project, and the only thing that I wish I had spent more time on would be the blending of the harsh lines.
