Foundations of Art

Throughout my life I was never thought of as an artist definitely not to myself, and for sure not to others. In foundations, I used a lot of my personality in my projects. I made a lot of my projects very bold and colorful, which I think is a lot like my personality. When creating most of my projects I needed to figure out what tools I could use to make the outcome of my projects just a little bit better. For example, when I was creating my Assemblage project I needed to figure out how I could make things a bit more shaped to help it not look boxy or frail. So, I found that using newspaper and normal paper together made it look a lot more shaped rather than frail. For most of the harder projects which approached more toward the end of the year, I started getting super frustrated with the outcomes of my projects as well as getting frustrated with myself. I wasn’t really good at a lot of the most recent projects like the wire sculptures. I began to get very frustrated and upset when working with the wire because either it just wasn’t working out with the shaping, or it just wasn’t working in general. With me getting upset I would get very discouraged and give up. But, the good part about these projects is that I learned from them, I learned what I’m personally good at, my strong suits. But, I also learned the things that I’m not so good at, my weak spots. There were a lot of projects that I found very challenging and I struggled with. For example, I found the following projects very challenging and very time consuming. The Color Design, Scratchboard, Wire Sculpture, and Assemblage. These projects took up a lot of time and made me get very frustrated and stressed because of the way they ended up looking like in the end. During Foundations we received a lot of different criteria, the criteria consisted of focusing most on the skills that were needed to be used for that certain project. My scratchboard project was a very time consuming project. But, in my opinion, it turned out looking a lot better than what I had expected. The criteria based off of this project was being able to identify dark and light using scratchboard, so we also practiced going from dark to light before doing this project. In my opinion, I did a really good job with that criteria. My Surrealism Collage project was probably the easiest project that was most recent, I also think it was my favorite. I think others might be a bit confused when looking at the painting because it’s a flying dog into a cloud with underwater scenes, but honestly I think it looks really cool and it was one of my favorite and best projects I’ve done in my opinion.
