Artist Statement

For this drawing, the main idea that guided me through my artwork was my prompt.  My prompt was "Draw a silly monster that loves to eat sweets." I chose this prompt because personally, I love sweets as well so it seemed like a fun idea to draw a monster that dreams of tons of sweets!

The materials I used for this drawing were a graphite pencil, colored pencils, and a pen. I used all of these materials on a regular piece of drawing paper and used many colors. I used the graphite pencil to lightly sketch out what my artwork would look like. Then I outlined everything with a pen to show the details more and make the image pop.  When I finished that, I ended up using colored pencils to make the artwork become more alive and had pretty bright colors to make it bring more of a happy look to the page.

During the process of my drawing, I had a few ideas that flowed through my brain. At first, I thought of drawing a monster in a pile of lots of different candy. However, I changed my idea because that seemed a little too complex with all the different little candies I would have to draw. Instead, I decided to draw a cartoon-ish-looking monster dreaming of a candy store that had tons of different candy in it. I thought this was a cute idea because it reminded me of something I would've drawn when I was younger and I also love sweets so drawing this piece was fun and adding the little details of the candy I thought was cool too.
