Scratchboard

The main idea that guided me through this artwork was to draw my dog using a reference picture. I chose this because I like to draw animals and would like to have a drawing or a few of my dog.

The materials used for this artwork were the scratchboard itself and different tools to scratch with. I used a single-needle tool to get the tinier details of my dog, then used tools that had multiple needles to get the larger areas of hair on my dog to fill in quicker.

During the process of this artwork, sometimes I would scratch off too much and a section of my dog would be too white, to fix this I improvised and either kept going or also added a little bit of black ink to even it out. By the end of my artwork, I noticed shadowing around the face was difficult, however, I learned to make tinier scratches to look as if it is a grey color to have more of a contrast then just white and black.
