Negative Space Leaves
Artist Statement
The main idea that guided this artwork was the season of fall. Fall is my favorite season and it just started.
To create this artwork I started on a black piece of 11" x 14" paper. I went outside and chose 5 different sized and shaped leaves. I then positioned and arranged the leaves on a different piece of paper and used scotch tape to keep them in place. I used a 2H graphite pencil to sketch the leaves in their places making sure to leave room for their negative spaces. After I sketched the leaves I decided what design I wanted in the negative spaces and what colors to use. I ended up doing stripes and I used a light brown colored pencil to draw in every other stripe.
Some revisions I made were deciding what design to do and what color to use for the negative space areas.
