Assemblage Sculpture

Butterfly assemblage sculpture

paper, tissue paper, masking tape, wire, tissue paper

Artist Statement

My main idea behind this project was to create a assemblage sculpture of something I like. I liked this project a lot because it felt really independent and I got to choose everything I did. To create this sculpture I first decided on a subject to do, I wanted something easy because I only had one day to complete it so I decided on a butterfly, I first took the paper, ripped it, and then twisted it to shape it into wings, I did this four times and wrapped each piece in masking tape to hold it, once I did this I took wire and wrapped it around the entire piece on each wing and the centerpiece. once I did that I shaped the wings with the wire and then used more wire to connect the wings to the body centerpiece. after it was attached and the sculpture part was done I took light purple, dark purple, and pink tissue paper and ripped it, and used wire to wrap it around each piece until it was covered. Some revisions I had to make was making the wings smaller, when I first started the wing was really big and would take a lot longer to wrap so I made them skinnier so I could better curve them.
