Art Essay

This year in foundations of art we have done a lot of projects and tried lots of different art skills and forms. Lots of them are way above my artistic ability. I think rather than my work getting better and better through the year as I learn more. I think it ranged and my strengths and weaknesses changed throughout each project depending on what I could do well and what I struggled with. I think my strengths were shown through the painting specifically my Surrealist collage, this was my favorite work and I really enjoyed the freedom and go-with-the-flow vibes this project gave off. Another project I liked was the clay slab. I did not enjoy all the steps it involved but I also really enjoyed the freedom and how the rose turned out. I think my biggest weaknesses are art projects that involve a lot of steps because they felt overwhelming and I couldn't always get photos of every step and then all the assignments would get missing.

I think looking through the landing page on my portfolio shows progress in my work and how much effort I put in. The most challenging project for me was the linoleum prints, It felt very overwhelming because it felt like 2 projects in one. we had to do lots of steps and then carve the linoleum block which took a while and then after we had to make 4 different perfect prints and there were lots of steps and assignments to post which made it harder to do with the stress.

The project I am most proud of is my assemblage sculpture, I don't think it looks amazing but I started and finished it in one class period and posted it, I think considering I did the whole project in that one class makes me the proudest and makes me feel good about my work ethic.

I used to do acrylic painting in my room and created a couple of canvas paintings a couple of years ago, I still have the same paint kit and I got extra black and white paint this weekend and completed my final exam independent artwork by painting a new canvas. It was really interesting to see the growth between the one a couple of years ago with the same material and the one I did this weekend. My goals for the summer and to continue art is by making more paintings on canvas, I think it is really relaxing to do them in my room while listening to music and tutorials are very easy to watch and learn new techniques.
