Mixed Media

This is a picture that I took a few years up north in Maine on East Grand Lake. In color it's a beautiful orange and pink sky with pretty dark blue water and pretty trees in the background. But it's still a great picture in black and white too, and that's what I drew here.

I used bristol paper, and I used charcoal for the water, sky, and side mountain, and I used ink pen for the mountain line in the back above the water far away, as well as the trees.

I like how it turned out, I like the contrast and the mood created by the darkness. I started with a dark base for the water and erased to create the small waves and whitecaps. I also smudged in a downward motion to create a subtle ombre from dark to light. If i could change one thing I would go back and be more precise with the waves and trees, but overall I really like this mixed media drawing.
