Painted Value Strip

Color Whirl

12" x 9"

Canvas Paper, Acrylic Paint

This design includes 84 colors includes the primary, secondary, and tertiary colors in circles in the center, surrounded by black. Then on the outside, 3 shades and tints for each color. The value strip on the left shows a primary and secondary color from darkest to lightest.

For this piece, I used graphite at first to trace down where each of my painted sections would be. Then once I was about to use the acrylic paint I erased the pencil. Both the value strip and "Color Whirl" are on canvas paper.

One thing that I wish was different was that I either made the violet shades lighter or used a border of white around each middle circle, to better show contrast. Other than that, I really like this piece. The many colors in this simple, yet intriguing pattern, create an almost hypnotic experience that it over quite cool.
