With my scraffito project, I didn't have a set plan in place for the design, I mostly just designed on the fly and decided from there on what I would do. I did have a base shape that I would work off, being the triforce shape from Zelda games. This design stood out to me when I was deciding what to make during the thinking process, simply because I liked the design and how it fits on my clay tile. That is the main idea that guided this project.
There were a decent amount of materials for the scraffito tile project, including the clay tile as the base of the project, engraving tools to make the design, scratchboard to make the sketched idea, and finally glaze to finalize the clay works. I used graphite as well to make the light sketch of what to dig out of the clay tile.
The process of making this scraffito work was very enjoyable and creative. I started off by researching designs, then upon finding one I used that as the base of my piece. From then on I looked at designs online just to see what I could do, then I made the rest of the scraffito. I used an engraving tool to do this. Once I was almost done and ready to fire it, someone decided it was a good idea to drop something on my clay tile, and this resulted in it splitting down the middle, a clean break in half. This posed an obvious problem, that was an easy fix but ended up messing with the overall look of my piece. I used superglue to glue it back together, which worked easily, but you can obviously make out the big crack down the middle, which I suppose could and another element of the art.
