Javelin Throw

Pencil, fine sharpie

6" x 4"

When I was deciding what to draw, I went through many different thoughts. I immediately saw that the ink looked like a head and an arm, I went through images for references of positions that would fit this head and arm position. I found one of someone throwing a javelin and thought it was the closest I was going to get, so I started drawing.

For materials, I used a piece of paper with an ink splotch on it. I used a ruler to make sure my proportions were accurate, using some references I found online to help guide my work. I sketched the person with a light graphite pencil to start with. After the sketch was done, I used a sharpie to ink in the lines I made sketching. I figured a darker color would go well with the ink splotch that I had to base my art around.

At first glance, I immediately saw a head and an arm, in some sort of pose. I looked up some reference poses to find the right one that fit the position that the ink splotch had made, and I finally found one. It was one of a man throwing a javelin or spear, and I thought that this fits perfectly with the ink splotches. I then wanted to have him throwing the javelin at something, but I could not come up with something. So, I decided to just draw one person.
