Painting value strip
Record of paint
Color Fire
For this art project, I had to make a design with acrylic paint that used 84 different colors. We started off by doing a value strip that would use a variety of shades of the same color, because this is what we will be doing for the main project. There wasn't too much creative thinking that had to go into the value strip, however the final project did. I wanted to do a fire like design from the start, so I always had that idea as a base in the back of my mind. Apart from that, the design went through different stages, with different things such as mistakes and colors guiding my art work.
The materials I used in the project where very important, also I used a wide variety of them. I used a paint pallet to contain the paint, a brush to apply the paint, a paint mixer to make the different shades, the canvas that I painted on, as well as graphite and sharpie for the sketch and finals line work. The main thing I used was acrylic paint, I used around 8 different colors to get all the shades I needed, and I used a lot of these 8 colors.
The process of this piece was rather tedious and time consuming. What I started off with was a sketch of the flames, and then I got to work on the black background which was pretty simple. After this, I went ahead and did all the color in the painting, which by far took the most time. Each color required me to mix the base color 6 different times, then paint it on the canvas, wash the pallet and repeat. After I was one with all of these colors, I went over the flames with sharpie and that was it.
