Unproportional Santa
Fine sharpie, bristle paper
8" x 5"
For this art piece, we had to blind draw and also only use one line. So basically, I had to draw three objects and/or people, while looking at them, and not looking back at my paper, while also only using one continuous line, hence the name. After finishing this, I saw what looked like an old man, so I decided to draw Santa.
For materials, I used a fine sharpie for the three blind drawings, then decided to continue to use the fine sharpie for the rest of the drawing. I did this because I wanted the whole piece to be with the same medium, to have a similar effect, and not have some lines be less or darker than others. To create this I first did a continuous blind drawing of my hand, then I did the same with my face in a mirror, and then the person who was sittings next to me's face. I then drew in eyes and made the shapes look like a disproportional Santa, hence the name.
After completing the three blind one-line drawings, I looked at my finished product at a few angles before I saw the potential for what I could draw. I saw the distorted facial structure of an old man, and around half a beard, and I knew I would be drawing Santa out of this. I wanted to keep the piece similar, so I used a sharpie to draw the rest. I didn't want to color in anything, so I decided to crosshatch some areas. I have never used this technique before, and I thought it would go well with this drawing, so I decided to do it.
