Selected Color Portraits

Artist Statement

For this assignment Mr. Andreson had us use portraits and select something to make colorful while keeping the rest of the image black and white. I went out with Cormac Hluska and Grace Whittaker to take some photos for this. I wanted to use bright colors and lots of flowers because of everything blooming right now.

My Favorite photo is probably the daffodil photo, I love the way the bright yellow of the flowers pop with the black and white. I also like the position of my model, if you look you can see that he's reaching for a flower. This photo shows grouping of the flowers and kind of rule of thirds.

This was my first time using photoshop so I definitely learned a lot about select color portraits but I still have a lot to learn. If I were to do this again I'd show more color in the first picture, I might use a different prop for the second picture or a better position, for the third photo I'd probably place the flowers better, for the fourth photo I'd probably show the stems too, and for the fifth photo I might not highlight the leaves because I feel like the green doesn't go very well. I still have a lot to learn and some of my lines could be cleaner but for my first time I think these five photos came out nicely.
