Artist Statement:
The main idea that guided my artwork is my reference photo of Bambi, my barn dog. I chose this photo because I loved all her little hairs and thought that the whispy hairs that she has would be good for scratchboard.
For this artwork, I used scratchboard, but I mainly used the scratching tool that creates individual lines because you can see almost every individual hair on Bambi and I thought that this tool would work well for the photo I chose.
For this artwork, I started by imprinting with a pencil and tracing the photo on top of the scratchboard before I went in with the scratching tool because I didn't want to mess up the proportions. I then started at the ears and went down throughout the photo from there until I had an overall close drawing. I then went back in with the scratching tool and added some more hairs onto the drawing, but I realized that my proportions for the nose and one eye were a little off so I covered it with black ink and went back over it and made the proportions correct.
