Artist Statement:
The main idea that guided my artwork was that I wanted to create something that had lots of lines. My mind immediately went to a painted horse because they are one of the most beautifully colored horses.
My artwork was made from a carved lino block of which I used Sharpie to trace my design and block printing ink which I used to make my prints. I chose the different colors of the ink because I think that they really bring my idea to life.
For this artwork, I first started by practicing on the smaller lino block in which I made my duality carving and print. I then sketched out my ideas in which I chose to do the painted horse. I then traced this onto one of the bigger lino blocks and colored the areas I wanted to leave black with black Sharpie. Then I carved out my drawing and started printing onto my proof sheet until I got the perfect print. I then started adding different colors and creating my four perfect prints. One is a solid color, one multi-colored, an extended one, and one on non-white paper.
