Realistic Scratchboard Drawing

This project was a realistic scratchboard drawing. For this project, I started with a value strip to practice with the materials and learn how to get different values. Making a value strip was important because scratchboard is a hard thing to work with because in order to get the different shades you have to scratch off less to get a darker shade an ore for a lighter shade.

For the picture I chose as a reference I went through 3 different pictures before I found one that I liked and had a full range of value. I started by griding the reference and the scratchboard. after that, I went square by square scratching the different values and pulling out the highlights. When I was done with what I saw on the reference, I went to the original picture to find more highlights to pull out to make the picture more realistic.

I think that this project came out really well and I enjoyed making it. I think that it looks very realistic and looks like the reference image. Although I do think that the background could have been more detailed but in the reference, the background was very blurry so it was hard to see the detail.
